Foot Care

St. Louis Chiropractor Provides Foot Care to Patients

Your feet may share the entire weight of your body thousands of time each day, so it will come as no surprise that these complex structures can develop painful problems that affect your ability to walk, run or even stand properly. A sports injury, plantar fasciitis or a spinal misalignment can all affect the health of your feet. In many cases, however, chiropractic treatment can help reduce or eliminate pain symptoms by correcting the problem at its source. If you need a St. Louis chiropractor who knows how to make such corrections, then you should arrange a consultation with us here at our St. Louis chiropractic offices of Edward Hengel, D.C.

Pain Management for Plantar Fasciitis

Sometimes foot pain stems from an improperly healed sports injury. An ankle sprain or fracture, for instance, may include tiny subluxations, or displacements, in the many small bones of the feet. Runners commonly develop a painful condition known as plantar fasciitis. This condition occurs when the plantar fascia, a band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed. If you have plantar fascitiis, you may favor the affected foot, and this limp may contribute to a spinal misalignment as the vertebrae become subject to uneven weight distribution. Other causes of chronic foot pain may include metatarsalgia, pain and callouses underneath the front of the foot, and Morton's Neuroma, which manifests itself as inflamed, swollen nerves between your toes. But you do not have to be an athlete to develop any of these conditions -- anyone can get them. Pregnant, overweight or older people, for example, can be prone to plantar fasciitis.

St. Louis Chiropractor Provides Treatment and Diagnosis

A skilled chiropractor can diagnose the cause of your foot pain and recommend the appropriate treatment. Many of our St. Louis chiropractic patients respond well to the Active Release Technique (ART) as part of their chiropractic foot treatment. This advanced type of massage therapy releases adhesions formed by scar tissue within your plantar fascia, muscles, tendons or ligaments. This built-up scar tissue prevents your body from healing itself fully while trapping nerves and adding to your pain and discomfort. We can free up those parts of your foot again, giving you back your range of motion, relieving pain and allowing subluxated bones to return to their proper position.

If your foot pain comes from, or has contributed to, a spinal misalignment, chiropractic treatment can fix that problem as well, making you less likely to have similar problems in the future. If you have special issues such as one uneven leg length or foot structure, we can select orthotic footwear that will correct the imbalance from the foot upward, which in turn helps your spine and the rest of your body remain balanced.

If you want to know more about our Active Release Technique (ART) or other services, contact our St. Louis chiropractic office today and let our chiropractor help you get back on your feet.
